About Cuyler Davis
My guest today is Cuyler Davis, General Contractor, Home Inspector and Business Owner of Core Dimensions. Cuyler graduated from Florida State University with a major in Mathematics and Physics. He immediately started teaching high school Physics, locally in central Florida. He got married soon thereafter and both he and his wife were school teachers. But they knew from day one that his wife wanted to stay home and raise the kids once they had kids. In the summer of 2002, their first son was born and Cuyler’s wife, Ana, stayed home starting that fall and he went back to teaching school He made it one paycheck before he realized he wasn’t going to be able to raise a family on that salary.
They had a little bit of equity in the house, so they took out money and Cuyler started his first company, a sign company. He had a little bit of experience in the past so he bought some equipment, cleaned out a back bedroom of the house and started a company. He thought that was going to be his answer and that’s what he was going to do to make money for the family. But that didn’t last long because a few years later, Cuyler reconnected with an old friend, Bo that he had grown up with, and who’s Cuyler’s current business partner to this day. Bo was building houses, beautiful luxury homes for a company called Cahill Custom Homes in Central Florida.
Cahill
Custom Homes needed some signage for a big event they were doing and Bo knew
that Cuyler was in the sign business. So they met at the job site and Cuyler
fell in love with custom homes. Shortly thereafter, the owner of the company
offered Cuyler a job as a superintendent. The only caveat was that the salary
was less than what he was paid as a school teacher. But there was a bonus
structure and the possibility to make more money. Cuyler went home and talked
to his wife about it and she was on board so they took the leap.
Cuyler and Bo built homes together for about a year and then made the decision to start their own custom homes business. So, they left Cahill and started Einheit homes and they’ve been in business together for about 13 years.
